Though the White Butterfly apartment is fully equiped for cooking and for enjoying your delicious dishes, we can image that you might want to venture out to sample Belgian and other cuisines.

The White Butterfly apartment does recommend the following restaurants and food stores. Make sure though to make reservations, for some well in advance.

RESTAURANTS

De Brasserie Nieuwpoort  (www.brasserienieuwpoort.be, Markplein 19, Nieuwpoort, +32 (0) 58 231 532)

A wide variety of delicious dishes in a relaxed and tastefully decorated brasserie. Our number one favourite place to enjoy an evening out. Open every day of the week, for both lunch and dinner. TIP: take the tram from Koksijde to Nieuwpoort village, have a relaxing lunch at Brasserie Nieuwpoort and then walk back via Nieuwpoort harbour (biggest yachting harbour of North Europe), the beautiful Nieuwpoort boardwalk, and the beach until you are back in Koksijde (about a 12km walk). An absolutely lovely walk.

Café de Paris  (www.cafedeparis.be, Kaai 16, Nieuwpoort, +32 (0) 58 240 480)

If you fancy fish and love parisien brasseries, then this is the place to go. Best shrimp croquettes of Nieuwpoort! Open every day of the week.

Botticelli  (www.botticelli.be, Albert I - Laan 197, Nieuwpoort-Bad, +32 (0) 475 78 59)

True Italian food in a lovely setting, in the mids of NIeuwpoort's shopping street. Closed on Wed and Thu.

De Mikke (www.demikke.be, Leopold II Laan 82, Oostduinkerke, +32 (0) 58 521 945)

If you fancy (grilled) meat, then there is only one place: De Mikke! A well known restaurant, though not fancy at all, full of locals. Please note that they do not take reservations. So first come, first served.

Spelleplekke (www.spelleplekke.be, Ijslandplein 10, Oostduinkerke, +(32) 58 623 616)

A great place to go with kids. Excellent location at the end of Oostduinkerke's beach walk, next to the dunes. Ideal for kids to play outside while waiting for the food. The waiters will make sure the kids come back on time as they get them from the beach. TIP: You can walk to Spelleplekke restaurant via Koksijde beach. This is about an hour walk, but worth every minute. Enjoy lunch or dinner at Spelleplekke and take the tram back. There are also some lovely shops at Oostduinkerke.

't Zeilend Fornuis  (www.zeilendfornuis.be, Leopold II Laan 200, Oostduinkerke, +32 (58) 620 310)

A fairly small family restaurant serving local fish dishes. Great food in an enjoyable setting. Closed Tue and Wed, during summer holidays only on Wed.

De Peerdevisscher Estaminet  (Pastoor Schmitzstraat 4, Oostduinkerke, +32 (0) 58 513 257)

The restaurant next to the Fishery museum in Oostduinkerke. Extremely well known for its sole dishes at lunch time (also the only dish they serve). Reservations necessary well in advance (weeks in advance!).

't Zoet Genot  (www.zoetgenot.be, Zeedijk 476, Oostduinkerke, +32 (0) 58 520 747)

If you have a sweeth tooth or just love cakes, waffels, pancakes or icecream, then you won't be disappointed in 't Zoet Genot. Enjoy! Open every day of the week.

Bakery & food stores

Leterme (www.fijnbakkerijleterme.be, Zeelaan 267, Koksijde, +32 (0) 58 620 460)

You would drive or fly to Koksijde, purely to visit Leterme bakery. The raisons, chocolate and multi-grain bread are our favourites. And of course, there is also a wide variety of cakes/patisserie which are very hard to resist. Extremely difficult to leave the bakery with just a loaf of bread. Closed on Mon.

Litoral  (Zeelaan 235, Koksijde, +32 (0) 58 51 14 56)

Though Leterme is by far our first choice bakery, Litoral is definitely a very good alternative. Just a few steps away from Leterme bakery. Closed on Wed and Thu.

Vishandel Albert (Kaai 27, Nieuwpoort, +32 (0) 58 234 279)

What a selection of fish they have! Even non fish lovers will be impressed with the freshness and variety of fish. Across the Nieuwpoort fish market. Definitely worth a visit, even if only to buy some fresh unpeeled shrimps. Closed on Thu (except during holidays).

Saumon D'Or (www.deklipper.be, Zeelaan 261, Koksijde, +32 (0) 58 52 40 92)

Speciality fish shop close to the appartment. Excellent quality, though a fair bit more expensive than Vishandel Albert in Nieuwpoort. Open every day of the week.

Supermarket De Spar (Guido Gezelleplein 4, Koksijde, +32 (58) 510 011

Fairly large supermarket close to the beach and about 1 km away from the apartment. Worth knowing that it is open every day of the week (also Sundays!) from 8.00 till 20.00.
